Flanked between Brookline to the North and Dedham to the South, West Roxbury was founded in 1630 and was originally a part of Roxbury that was used for farmland. Years later it was annexed by Boston in 1874 and included both JP and Roslindale. Today, West Roxbury’s main thoroughfare is Centre Street where one will find many of its shops, businesses and restaurants that serve the area. Housing stock includes some two-family dwellings but primarily single family homes. The MBTA commuter rail has a few stops in West Roxbury while there are several bus lines that run through it as well providing public transportation to all residents.
