Situated six miles southwest of Boston, Roslindale is primarily a residential neighborhood. Bordered by JP, Hyde Park, West Roxbury and Mattapan, Roslindale was originally part of Roxbury. Like many of Boston’s neighborhoods, it is served by the MBTA commuter rail, MBTA bus lines as well as the Orange Line T.
Roslindale’s growth really took off in the 1880’s when the railway was built after the American Civil War. The introduction of horse-drawn railway service between Forest Hills and Dedham influenced residential population growth from a spawn of new commercial development, post war. Today, Roslindale Square enjoys its renewed success with flourishing businesses, food markets and movie theater. With the number of new apartment buildings erected in the area there has been a need for these services. Among some of the noteworthy events in the area includes the Roslindale Farmers’ Market and the annual tree lighting in Adams Park.
